White House Down (Roland Emmerich) - 2013

This is the movie that shows what will happen if John Boehner and Mitch McConnell try to take over the U.S. government by force.  They don't stand a chance if Channing Tatum is in the house.  A few right-wing idiots have stormed the White House in a well-coordinated attack and they have surface-to-air missiles.  James Woods leads the assault, with his insider knowledge as chief of the secret service, to avenge the death of his son.  His plan is to launch a massive nuclear strike against Iran et al.  Jamie Foxx is excellent as the basketball-playing, Nicorette gum-chewing, black POTUS.  And, to draw in the younger crowd, Joey King is the precocious 11-year-old daughter that everyone wishes they had.  Nicolas Wright steals the show as Donnie, the White House tour guide.  As hokey and improbable as the plot may be, this action film is fun for movie goers of all ages except for the hundreds of government staffers who bit the dust.  The film ends with enough job openings in Washington, DC to make a significant dent in the unemployment rate.  [JAM 6/29/2013]
