San Andreas (Brad Peyton) -2015

It's not my fault.

The subtitle for this movie could be "Love in the Time of Earthquakes".  The Rock is an LAFD search-and-rescue helicopter pilot.  He is apparently being sued for divorce by his wife (Carla Gugino) because he was not good at talking about feelings.  Meanwhile, his soon-to-be-ex-wife is moving in with her boyfriend (Ioan Gruffudd) who is a multi-millionaire building contractor.  Ioan promises Rock's daughter (Alexandra Daddario) that he will not interfere with the father-daughter relationship and proves it on the same day by skipping town when Alexandra becomes trapped in a collapsed San Francisco parking garage.  When the big earthquake hits, Rock first saves his ex-wife in LA and then steals vehicles, airplanes and boats to find the daughter in SF.  Fortunately, an elderly couple warns Rock just in time before he drives into the San Andreas Fault - now known as "Grand Canyon Far West".  In San Francisco, Alexandra joins forces with two English blokes to help each other survive the biggest quake (9.6) in history, and the subsequent tsunami.  Thousands of Californians are crushed by falling buildings while our heroes (Rock & family & blokes) escape with minor scrapes and bruises.  One supposes that Rock will be excused for the destruction of numerous vehicles and be able to return to LAFD as they begin the process to rebuild the state and start listening to earthquake experts like Paul Giamatti who knew this was going to happen but, doggone it, nobody pays any attention to the scientists.  [JAM 6/5/2015]
