Land of the Lost (Brad Silberling) - 2009

Will Farrell designs a tachyon amplifier that plays show tunes and takes him, his girl friend (Anna Friel) and a tour guide (Danny McBride) to a strange place somewhere in a parallel universe.  They soon discover that they are not the first to make this trip.  It seems that bridges, motels, airplanes and ice cream trucks have also been transported to this land mostly from Earth in the 1950s.  Natives of the strange land are the monkey people and various dinosaurs including a big one they name "Grumpy" that is smarter than they originally think.  To complicate matters, some lizard people (Sleestak) are lurking.  One of them, Zarn voiced by Leonard Nimoy, appears as a hologram.  The Sleestak want the tachyon amplifier so they can somehow use it to dominate other worlds.

The movie is based loosely on a very bad television show from 1974.  The plot is thin but the sets are great and the jokes keep coming.  If you are a fan of Will Farrell and silly-on-purpose movies, this is the one for you.  The credits are done in an arty way and there is a surprise in the middle.  [JAM 6/12/2009]
