La La Land (Damien Chazelle) -2016

This is an excellent production with strong performances by Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling.  Stone should receive the Oscar for her versatility that includes singing, dancing and emoting.  Gosling's keyboard ability is impressive.  Two aspiring performers struggle to make it in show business in Los Angeles.  They eventually find each other and strive to encourage their respective paths to stardom.  The musical fantasy is fine except that the writer and director decided to add a twist ending.  Why in the world would they end a musical with a less than satisfying ending?  Give us the ending we want, please!.  In spite of this one expression of regret by me, La La Land is the best 2016 movie I have seen to date.  [JAM 1/26/2017]
