Casa De Mi Padre (Matt Piedmont) - 2012

This is a great movie to test your Spanish I skills.  Will Ferrell plays the straight-face hero in a low-budget parody of modern Mexican westerns.  Ferrell and crew exploit every stereotype of the genre including slow-motions gunfights, excessive cigarette smoking (including Canadian slims), cheap sets, fake animals, mannequins, poor editing and at one point, an apology for a missing scene.  With English subtitles, Director Piedmont's film is easily the best parody on a movie screen in the 21st century.  Although some humor-challenged critics have panned the movie, I believe that Casa will become a comedy classic in the U.S. and overseas but probably not in Mexico.  [JAM 3/30/2012]
