Alice Through the Looking Glass (James Bobin) - 2016

There is so much detail in this movie that it is impossible to see it all in one sitting.  Although the plot is thin, the adventure is pleasing for Lewis Carroll fans.  In a future not envisioned by Mr. Carroll, the Mad Hatter (full name: Tarrant Hightopp) played by Johnny Depp gets a much bigger role and a full crew of makeup artists.  The Hatter is so very sad because he has apparently lost his entire family to "the frumious Bandersnatch" [from Jabberwocky] and (who knows why?) Alice (Mia Wosikowska) is the only person or inanimate object who could possibly find the lost family of Hightopps.  Time (Sacha Baron Cohen) and the Red Queen/Iracebeth (Helena Bonham Carter) steal the show with their portrayals of complicated characters.  I missed so much of this movie because I could not avert my eyes from Tweedledee/Tweedledum (Matt Lucas).  The special effects are flawless.  There was never really any doubt regarding the progression and ending of the story.  I went only to see what Director Bobin and company had done with the classic Lewis Carroll creation.  This film is timeless.  [JAM 6/10/2016]
