Three Ten to Yuma (James Mangold) - 2007
Russell Crowe is meaner and nastier than Glenn Ford was in the 1957 version. There is also a lot more chasing, shooting and dying than in the original. However, the storyline is much the same with very similar dialog. There are a few twists and thirty more minutes in the big-budget, 21st-century movie. After seeing both, I need to read the Elmore Leonard classic to determine which director was most true to the author's words. Although Mangold's film was the better production, I liked the tone and spirit of the black-and-white version. [JAM 3/15/2010]
