Mad #496 (John Ficarra) - Kids' Books Issue - December 2008

In the one of the best articles ever to appear in the pages of Mad ("Using Kids' Books to Explain the Awful Bush Years"), writer David Shayne explains the horrible, eight-year record of the Bush Administration with three book parodies plus six more extremely accurate parody book titles:

"The Taking Tree"
"The Little Engineer That Couldn't"
"Failing Up"
"Runaway Deficit"
"If You Give a Walrus a Waterboarding"
"The Liar, the Witch and the Warmonger"
"Kerfuffle Rummy"
"Don't Let the Pigeon Tap Your Phone!"
"Karl Goes to the White House"

Having lived through this monument to dysfunction, one would think that the American voting public would have learned their lesson.  However, just six years later, Republicans have taken control of the U.S. Congress, the Supreme Court and a majority of the state governments.  Good times are returning for political satirists.  [JAM 12/18/2014]
