Mad #461 (John Ficarra) - Dumbest People 2005 (and first full-color) Issue - January 2006

The Bush Administration again dominated Mads's "Dumbest" list with appearances in six of the twenty.  George er (#1) is not to be found in Jeff Kruse's parody of Where's Waldo? in the flooded city of New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina.  Sculptor Tony Cipriano placed Karl Rove (#5) in short pants and short yellow tie as "Washington's Lil' Leaker" who joined Dick Cheney and others to leak the name of CIA operative, Valerie Plame Wilson.  George W came back (#8) as Pat Robertson shoots Hugo Chavez while several Mad staffers watch.  Then, George W takes takes a flying leap (#11) back to Washington from Crawford, Texas to sign a ridiculous Republican bill regarding the tragedy Terri Schiavo in Florida.  Donald Rumsfeld and Condoleeza Rice (#15) with "Captive Underpants" by Desmond Devlin.  And, finally, "FEMA failure" Michael Brown is identified as one of "The Biggest Losers" (#20) drawn by Drew Friedman.  After five years in office, George W and company have been the source of humor gift that just keeps giving.  We laugh but we suffer at the same time.  The first issue of Mad in 2006 was also the first to have color on each of its 56 pages.  [JAM 9/12/2014]
