Mad #136 (Albert Feldstein) - Botch & Somedunce Issue - July 1970

Arnie Kogen wrote it and Mort Drucker drew it.  Mad's parody of the popular Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid movie depicted the guys as wise-cracking robbers being chased by the comedy posseLook for W.C. Fields (1880-1946) at the poker table and, Don Rickles, Danny Thomas (1912-1991), Richard Pryor (1940-2005), Bob Hope (1903-2003) and Woody Allen in Bolivia.

After the focus on politics in issue #135, the main subject of #136 was sex.  Dave Berg started it with "The Lighter Side of Sex."  Then, Sy Reit and Paul Coker, Jr. offered "The Mad Sex Education Primer."  Finally, sex was the main topic in the Stan Hart & Angelo Torres parody of Room 222.  However, all of this was quite tame compared to the new satire magazine in town, National Lampoon.  While Mad was still snickering with 12-year-old boys, Lampoon was having a beer with Uncle Fred.

This was the second and last appearance in Mad by artist John Cullen Murphy (1919-2004).  He drew the excellent drawings of Mike Wallace, Spiro Agnew, Richard Nixon, Lyndon Johnson and others in Stan Hart's "Mad's Vice-President of the Year."  Murphy was best known for his drawings of Prince Valiant in the New York Daily News.  His only other drawings for Mad appeared on the back cover of Mad #134.
