Legacy of Secrecy (Lamar Waldron with Thom Hartmann) - Counterpoint - 2008 (848 pages)

Many of us who lived through the assassinations of the 1960s never did buy those lone, crazy gunman theories.  This book by Waldron/Hartmann presents objective evidence and copious documentation to conclude that the killings of JFK, MLK and RFK were orchestrated by organized crime bosses to protect their territory.  Oswald, Ruby, Ray and Sirhan were just stooges set up to take the raps.  Based on documents declassified over 40 years after the fact, this book documents the cover-ups by the CIA, the FBI and the executive branch of our government to protect their secret. misguided plans to assassinate foreign leaders, especially Fidel Castro.  It is apparent that the CIA and the FBI cause more problems than they solve.  However, the Cuban leader gets the last laugh since he has outlived almost everyone involved in the plots to kill him.  Legacy of Secrecy connects the assassinations with Watergate, Iran-Contra and the disappearance of Jimmy Hoffa.  Also documented are the numerous witnesses who were murdered before they could testify against mob leaders.

Although the book is well-researched, there are gaps in the story caused by the many documents that have yet to be released and the many more that were destroyed by U.S. government agencies.  Every American should be concerned about these revelations.  If you do not have time to wade through the 848 pages, you should at least read the Introduction or Chapter 65.
